Bentley Hotel South Beach History

The 20th of July, 1939

Bentley Hotel South Beach History The Riviera Hotel Company was granted a permit to build a three-tiered masonry structure, valued at $103,000, that featured 22 apartment units and storefronts on both streets. Architects John and Coulton Skinner crafted the building in the Modern Art-Deco style, taking advantage of its attractive corner location. Taking on two distinct facades with racing stripes and eyebrows on the east and south sides as well as octagonal lozenge windows, it was distinguished by a built-up corner parapet decorated with a bas-relief medallion crowned with a flagpole. A three-color chevron accents the terrazzo floor at the corner entrance. It was called the Riviera Hotel for its first decade according to City Directories through 1949.
